Azienda Agricola Cortese is an organic estate located in Vittoria, southeastern Sicily, dedicated to producing authentic, terroir-driven wines. The winery follows a minimal-intervention philosophy, combining traditional practices with modern precision to express the natural character of native Sicilian varieties. Sustainability and respect for the environment are at the heart of the Cortese ethos.

Production

The grapes are 100% Nero d’Avola from the estate’s certified organic vineyards. Harvested by hand in mid-September, the fruit is carefully sorted and processed immediately upon arrival at the winery to preserve purity. Producing a no-sulphur-added wine requires meticulous hygiene and precision — fermentation is carried out under controlled conditions, with careful pumping over during the early stages. After fermentation, the wine remains on the skins for three to four days to extract gentle structure and flavour before being racked and stored under strict oxygen-free conditions.

Tasting notes

Deep ruby red in colour, this Nero d’Avola offers an intense bouquet of black cherry, plum, and wild blackberry, complemented by hints of spice and Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, it is soft, rounded, and supple, with velvety tannins and pure, lingering fruit.
