Moda Foca is a vibrant Monastrell from Valencia, Spain, made from organically grown grapes on chalky soils at 600 metres above sea level. The name—Spanish slang for “fashion seal”—reflects the wine’s cheeky personality and bold character. Crafted with minimal intervention and a touch of oak, it’s a modern take on a classic Mediterranean red.

Meet the producer

Citizen Wine is a sustainability-focused label that partners with small producers committed to organic farming and biodiversity. Their wines are expressive, approachable, and designed to challenge convention—bringing fresh energy to traditional winemaking.

Production

Grapes from 30-year-old vines are hand-harvested and sorted manually. A soft maceration includes 25% whole bunch fermentation over 10 days in temperature-controlled tanks. The wine spends one month in second-use French oak barrels to add subtle spice and texture.

Tasting notes

Deep red in colour. Aromas of spicy red fruits, blackberries, and a hint of pepper. The palate is fleshy and fruit-driven, with notes of blackcurrant, blueberry, and tart cherry. A touch of oak adds warmth and complexity, balanced by fresh acidity and soft tannins.
