Château Tournefeuille Lalande de Pomerol is a beautifully balanced expression of Merlot and Cabernet Franc from the clay–gravel slopes of Néac, overlooking the legendary plateau of Pomerol and the vineyards of Pétrus. The 18-hectare estate lies on a south-facing hillside that descends gently toward the Barbanne Valley, the natural boundary between the two appellations. Its diverse terroirs—ranging from water-regulating clay slopes to gravelly outcrops and clay-loam plateaus—create wines of depth, complexity, and freshness. The south-facing vineyards produce round, powerful Merlots, while the gravel and north-facing plots lend the Cabernets their structure and lift.

Meet the producer

Château Tournefeuille is an historic estate whose name means “turning leaf,” a reference to the way its vines catch the golden evening light. The property enjoys a privileged position facing the finest terroirs of Pomerol. Today, the château is run with an emphasis on precision, respect for the land, and a balance between tradition and innovation. Half of the vineyard is cultivated biodynamically and the remainder sustainably, with no chemical herbicides or insecticides used.

Production

Harvesting is carried out by hand, with careful sorting of grapes before fermentation. Vinification takes place plot by plot in thermoregulated concrete vats, each calibrated to the size of the parcel. Maceration lasts between two weeks and one month, depending on the character of each terroir. Malolactic fermentation occurs in both barrels and vats. The wine is then matured for 18 months—80% in fine-grained French oak barrels (one-third new) and 20% in vats—using barrels from five different coopers to achieve balance and complexity.

Tasting notes

Deep ruby in colour, Château Tournefeuille reveals aromas of ripe black cherry, plum, and blackberry, layered with hints of violet, spice, and subtle oak. The palate is generous yet refined, with supple tannins and a fine mineral freshness. A long, elegant finish reflects the harmony of its hillside terroir and its proximity to Pomerol’s great estates.
