Château Fortia is a classic and structured expression of this renowned Rhône appellation, crafted from mature estate vineyards set on gently sloping, south-facing terraces. The vines are rooted in the region’s iconic galets roulés over clay-limestone soils, which retain heat and promote even ripening. This traditional blend delivers depth and balance, combining ripe dark fruit with savoury complexity, firm structure, and a long, spicy finish that reflects both terroir and heritage.

Meet the Producer

Château Fortia is a historic, family-run estate at the heart of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, spanning approximately 36 hectares, with 32 hectares under vine. The domaine is closely associated with Baron Pierre Le Roy de Boiseaumarié, a key architect of France’s AOC system, whose legacy continues to shape the estate’s philosophy. Alongside vineyards, the property includes woodlands, gardens, and ecological buffer zones, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable land stewardship.

Production

Grapes are sourced exclusively from the estate’s mature vineyards and harvested by hand to ensure optimal ripeness and careful selection across the domaine’s diverse parcels. The fruit is fully destemmed and undergoes a traditional four-week maceration with daily pump-overs to extract colour, flavour, and structure. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel and concrete tanks, followed by 24 months of ageing in large, old foudres, allowing the wine to develop complexity without overt oak influence.

Tasting Notes

The wine opens with aromas of ripe blackberry, plum, and dried Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, it is concentrated yet balanced, with firm, well-integrated tannins and layers of dark fruit, spice, and savoury notes leading to a long, warm, and peppery finish.
