Château Cadet-Bon is a refined expression of Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, crafted from Merlot (80%) and Cabernet Franc (20%) grapes grown on clay-limestone soils. The vineyard, with an average vine age of 40 years, is situated on the southern slope of the Butte and the limestone plateau of the medieval city. The property occupies 7 hectares, 6 of which are contiguous, allowing precise vineyard management that emphasizes terroir expression. Since 2017, the estate has been converting to organic farming, a natural extension of Guy Richard’s commitment to transcribe the soil and grape varieties as naturally as possible. The wine is aged in French oak barrels, partially new, allowing the fruit to integrate beautifully with subtle oak nuances.

Meet the producer

The Cadet-Bon castle, located at the exit of the village of Saint-Émilion, has been owned by Guy Richard since 2001. The estate combines a long tradition of Bordeaux winemaking with careful modern interventions, focusing on expressing the unique character of the terroir.

Production

Grapes are hand-harvested and sorted before fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel and oak vats. Malolactic fermentation occurs in French oak barrels, followed by 12–18 months of aging to harmonize tannins and develop complexity. Minimal filtration ensures the wine’s integrity and structure are preserved.

Tasting notes

Deep ruby colour with violet hues. Aromas of ripe black cherry, plum, and hints of tobacco, cedar, and spice. The palate is full-bodied, structured, and elegant, with layered dark fruit, fine tannins, and a long, refined finish.
