Casa Ferreirinha Callabriga is a refined red wine from the Douro, crafted from a blend of Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, and Tinta Roriz. The grapes are sourced from the rolling hills of Quinta da Leda and neighbouring estates, where schist soils fracture vertically, encouraging deep root growth and access to essential water and nutrients during hot Douro summers. Each plot is carefully matched to its grape variety, and the vineyards are managed with meticulous attention to canopy, cover crops, and selective green harvesting to ensure optimal quality in the challenging 2022 vintage.

Meet the producer
Founded in 1952 by Fernando Nicolau de Almeida, Casa Ferreirinha pioneered the quality revolution of Douro still wines. Today, under the guidance of winemaker Luís Sottomayor, the estate produces elegant and textured reds, whites, and rosés sourced predominantly from the Douro Superior. The Quinta da Leda estate, near the Spanish border, serves as the flagship, combining traditional Douro vineyard practices with state-of-the-art winemaking facilities.

Production
Grapes are hand-harvested and fully destemmed before gentle crushing. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks, followed by extended maceration on the skins to extract silky tannins. The wine is then aged for 12 months in a combination of 25% new American oak and 75% used French oak barrels. The final blend is assembled after careful tasting and analysis, and the wine is gently filtered prior to bottling.

Tasting notes
Deep ruby in colour, the nose is intense and complex, revealing ripe strawberry, cherry, cassis, with subtle notes of truffles and cedar. The palate is elegant and harmonious, with fresh acidity, velvety tannins, and a long, balanced finish.
