• Carlos Lucas is a pioneering winemaker with nearly 30 years of experience, crafting modern-style Portuguese wines across the country. His focus is on the Dão region, where he replanted vineyards at Quinta do Ribeiro Santo in thin granitic soils and acquired Quinta de Santa Maria in Cabanas de Viriato, a 10-hectare plot of old vines planted with Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Alfrochiero, and Jaen. The vineyards are farmed using an integrated crop management system, with hand-harvested grapes carefully selected to preserve their varietal expression.

  Viticulture

  The vineyards are planted on poor granite soils with schist outcrops, offering a striking perspective of the Serra da Estrela mountains. Grapes are hand-picked into small boxes of 18 kilograms and meticulously selected to produce wines that truly reflect the region, its traditions, and the dedication to Portuguese grape varieties.

  Winemaking

  The grapes are fully destemmed and placed into small stainless steel tanks. Cold maceration is carried out for 24 hours before fermentation with selected yeast over twelve days. Gentle pumping ensures optimal extraction of colour and aromas, and the wine is then aged in stainless steel vats until release, preserving freshness and purity.

  Tasting Note

  The wine shows a red colour with violet hues, offering aromas of black mulberry, blackberry, and a subtle hint of pine needles. It is fresh and youthful, with a sweet yet elegant palate.

  Food Matching

  This wine pairs beautifully with traditional Portuguese cuisine such as duck rice, oven-baked cod, cured sausages, grilled chicken, and pasta.
