The Dal Cero family moved to Ca’ dei Frati in 1939 and quickly recognised the potential of the southern shores of Lake Garda for fine grape growing. The farm’s well-drained alluvial soils, deposited by ancient glaciers, moderate vine vigour, while the lake tempers hot summer temperatures, creating ideal conditions for expressive and balanced white wines.

Producer Note
Franco Dal Cero manages the vineyards while Igino Dal Cero oversees winemaking, blending meticulous vineyard practices with careful cellar techniques. The family were instrumental in the creation of the Lugana DOC in the late 1960s and today are its largest vineyard owners. Hand-harvesting, gentle pressing without skin contact, and lees ageing post-fermentation are key to preserving aromatic purity, freshness, and texture. Malolactic fermentation is inhibited in white wines to maintain vibrancy, contributing a flinty, almost Burgundian character.

Vineyards
The estate’s vineyards are planted on glacial soils, with vines trained low on single or double Guyot. Newer plantings have higher density, while yields remain below the regional average. Turbiana, the region’s signature grape, benefits from warm days for weight and intensity, and cool nights from the lake’s influence to retain freshness and aromatic expression.

Winemaking
Grapes are hand-picked and carefully sorted before gentle pressing using a pneumatic press. The must is fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve fresh fruit character and matured on lees in 500-litre stainless steel tanks for six months, followed by a further two months in bottle before release.

Tasting Note
The wines are vibrant and expressive, with fresh aromas of honeysuckle, apricot, spice, and candied fruits. The palate shows depth, balance, and a crisp, saline finish, reflecting the quality and precision of the Dal Cero family’s winemaking.
