Bunnahabhain Stiùireadair is a sherried, unpeated Islay single malt whisky that blends coastal character with rich dried fruit and creamy sweetness.

Stiùireadair (pronounced “stew-rad-hur”) means “helmsman” in Scots Gaelic, a nod to the distillery’s maritime heritage on the northeastern coast of Islay. Unlike many Islay whiskies, Bunnahabhain is known for producing unpeated expressions, and Stiùireadair continues that tradition while offering a bold sherry influence. It is crafted using a mix of first and second-fill sherry casks and bottled at 46.3% ABV, with natural colour and no chill filtration, preserving its full texture and flavour.

The nose reveals dried fruit, creamy caramel and sweet vanilla, with hints of brine and nuts. The palate is smooth and creamy, offering flavours of sea salt, dried fruit, nuts and gentle spice. The finish is long and lingering, with a balance of rich sherry sweetness and coastal freshness that evokes the sea breeze of Bunnahabhain Bay.

Stiùireadair is often described as a more accessible alternative to the 12 Year Old, ideal for those who enjoy sherried malts with a maritime twist. It’s best enjoyed neat or with a splash of water to open up its layered complexity.
