Description
Description
Andresen 10 Year Old White Port is a historic, pioneer wine produced in the prestigious Cima Corgo sub-region of the Douro Valley, Portugal. Crafted under the supervision of Master Blender Álvaro Van Zeller, house J.H. Andresen made history in 2007 by releasing the market's very first White Port with an Age Indication. Matured over a decade in traditional wooden casks, this luxurious fortified wine showcases a rich, oxidative complexity that redefined the entire category.
Why You'll Love It
This bottling stands out for its luscious depth, nutty complexity, and historical significance as the benchmark for aged White Port. By blending indigenous Portuguese grape varieties and ageing the wine for ten years in small oak casks, it achieves a mesmerising balance of dried fruit sweetness, toasted nuttiness, and smooth, warming alcohol. Ready to enjoy immediately upon opening, it keeps wonderfully for several weeks once uncorked, making it an ideal post-dinner treat.
Vineyard & Production
The grapes are harvested from prized vineyard parcels across the Cima Corgo sub-region of the Douro. The blend comprises 40 percent Códega, 25 percent Malvasia Fina, 20 percent Rabigato, and 15 percent Arinto. Vinification takes place in cement tanks and traditional granite lagares, featuring a one-day pre-fermentative maceration followed by two days of active fermentation. Fermentation is halted at 8 degrees Baumé by adding fine wine brandy. The wine is then aged for a decade in 600-litre seasoned oak casks to undergo gentle, controlled oxidative maturation.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it displays a deep amber-gold hue with copper reflections. The nose is intensely aromatic, offering complex layers of dried apricots, orange marmalade, toasted almonds, and a touch of honeyed oak. On the palate, it is rich, smooth, and full-bodied, delivering a luscious sweetness of 111 grams per litre balanced by a gentle streak of tartaric acidity. Notes of dried figs, walnuts, and subtle baking spice lead into a long, beautifully warming finish.
Perfect Pairings
Served lightly chilled between 12 and 14 degrees Celsius, this 10 Year Old White Port is an exceptional dessert wine. It pairs magnificently with rich foie gras, crème brûlée, milk chocolate, and festive treats such as Christmas pudding and mince pies. It is also an outstanding companion for bowls of mixed roasted nuts, walnuts, and a selection of rich blue or soft matured cheeses.
