Abel Mendoza Monge Jarrate is an artisanal white Rioja crafted from old-vine vineyards in the foothills of the Cantabrian Mountains, reflecting purity, freshness, and true terroir expression.

Producer profile
Since the late 1980s, Abel Mendoza and Maite Fernández have quietly produced some of Rioja’s most honest, terroir-driven wines. Working with old vines on rugged, high-altitude slopes near San Vicente de la Sonsierra, their philosophy is one of restraint—eschewing heavy oak in favour of letting the vineyard speak. Every wine reflects Abel’s deep knowledge of Rioja’s diverse soils, yielding wines of character, precision, and authenticity.

Viticulture & winemaking
The grapes come from old vineyards on the edge of the Ebro Valley, rooted in clay, marl, and sandstone soils. All vineyard work is carried out organically, with harvesting done by hand at perfect ripeness. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, where the wine rests on its lees for added texture and complexity, preserving fruit purity without oak influence.

Tasting profile
This indigenous blend, led by Viura (47%) and Malvasía (25%) alongside Torrontés, Tempranillo Blanco, and Garnacha Blanca, reveals the elegance of high-altitude Rioja whites. The nose is charmingly aromatic, offering white peach, floral tones, and fresh herbs. On the palate, it is crisp and vibrant, layered with notes of fennel, anise, and refreshing minerality.
