Jura One For The Road And Jura Tastival 2016 - Two Limited Edition Whiskies For You To Enjoy

Exciting news for whisky drinkers and collectors alike as two limited edition Jura whiskeys land on our doorstep this month. The first is the very rare Jura One For The Road, a splendid malt marking the retirement of Willie Cochrane, Distillery Manager and much loved whisky personality. The second treat for you is Jura Tastival 2016, the annual distillery release marking the Tastival festival held on Jura earlier in the year.

Jura One For The Road 22 Years Old Pinot Noir Finish

Willie Cochrane came to Jura in 1977 planning just to spend a year on the island before moving on to pastures new. Little did he know that when he took a job at Jura distillery as a maintenance man, he would be having a whisky dedicated to him following an astounding 39 year career there! Willie worked his way up in the distillery despite initially having little whisky knowledge; his background was in mechanics and that proved to be very useful what with all the machinery required for whisky distillation.  He has experienced all aspects of the distillery and apparently often jokes there isn't a nut or bolt he hasn't tightened!

For the last 11 years Willie has been the distillery manager and became renowned both for his excellent whisky creations and his friendly and humorous demeanour.  He welcomed thousands of eager visitors to the island and was an integral part of the small island community.

What better way to recognise the extraordinary mark he has left on the distillery and island itself than by launching a limited edition whisky in his honour.  Jura One for the Road , a 22 year old single malt, is the final expression to be bottled under Willie’s care.
One For The Road has an exceptional ‘Pinot Noir’ finish and is bottled at cask strength (47% ABV), with a natural colour and is non-chill filtered. Only 5,000 bottles of this limited edition expression are available worldwide.
Nose

Freshly baked bread, moist walnut cake, over-ripe pineapple and vanilla. A whisper of black bitter chocolate, Java coffee and tangy macaroons to finish.

Taste

Ginger, cassis, frangipane and caramelised peaches. Glazed nectarines, pears in red wine and soft cranberries. A finale of Turkish delight, fig syrup and cherry cake.

Jura Tastival 2016 Edition

Every year Jura distillery invites people from all around the globe to come to the island for two days of whisky celebration. They call this monumental event Tastival and this year's was held at the end of May. The festival aims to show people new and exciting ways to enjoy Jura whisky, basking in the various sensory experiences it has to offer. As a bonus to all those who couldn't make it, Jura release a special limited edition Tastival bottling after every event. This year, they even allowed fans to help choose the packaging! The Tastival bottling are always something a little more unusual and experimental than the mainstream expressions. The Tastival 2016 is finished in three specially selected sherry casks. An 11 year old Palomino Fino sherry cask, a 15 year old "Amoroso" oloroso sherry cask and a 30 year old "Apostoles" oloroso sherry cask to give this dram a truly unique flavour profile.
Nose

Hot creamy caramel, roasted hazelnuts, over-ripe pears and soft vanilla drift into play. Maple syrup, delicate aged oloroso sherry and crushed almonds all add to make this an opulent dram.

Taste

Baked apple segments dusted with Demerara sugar and cinnamon, kiwi fruits and hot mulled wine. A fusion of sun dried sultanas, glazed pineapple with lemon verbena provides the perfect aftertaste.
