Vintage & Winemaking

This Swartland vintage was defined by low rainfall and challenging conditions, resulting in small canopies and low yields. Fortunately, the absence of extreme summer heat allowed for lower alcohol levels and naturally low residual sugar, giving balance and refinement.

Grapes were sourced primarily from Boekenhoutskloof's own sustainably farmed vineyards – Porseleinberg, Goldmine and Partnership – which now contribute around 60% of the final blend. Whole berries were fermented naturally in a mix of concrete and stainless steel, before maturing for 12–14 months in seasoned French oak barriques.

Tasting Notes

The nose bursts with blackberry, blueberry and ripe bramble fruit, layered with black olives, perfume, white pepper and coriander seed. On the palate, dark berries are joined by notes of red liquorice, cherry and exotic spice. Medium to full-bodied with a broad, velvety mid-palate, the wine offers silky tannins, vibrant acidity and an elegant, pure finish with hints of cherry tobacco.

Perfect Pairings

Pair with chargrilled steak, venison, lamb shanks, braised short ribs, or rich vegetable dishes. Its structure and spice also make it excellent with game pies, aged cheeses, and barbecued meats.
