Distillery & Botanicals

Isle of Harris Gin is distilled in a small copper gin still affectionately known as The Dotach, which sits alongside the whisky-making stills in the distillery's Spirit Hall. The nine botanicals are led by Sugar Kelp seaweed, gathered sustainably by hand from local sea-lochs, which gives the gin its signature maritime character. The supporting botanicals are juniper, coriander seeds, cubebs, cassia bark, angelica root, bitter orange peel, orris root powder, and liquorice root. Only the heart of each distillation run is bottled, ensuring exceptional smoothness and purity in every bottle.

Tasting Notes

Expect a fresh and maritime nose with the gentle brininess of Sugar Kelp underpinned by classic juniper and citrus. On the palate, smooth and complex, with layers of spice from the cubebs and cassia bark, sweet citrus from the bitter orange peel, and a subtle earthiness from the angelica and orris root. The finish is long, clean, and gently warming, with a lingering maritime character that is entirely unique to Harris.
