Merry Edwards Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir is a sophisticated expression of Pinot Noir from carefully selected parcels along California’s Sonoma Coast. It combines multiple clones and vineyards to showcase the elegance, complexity, and coastal freshness characteristic of the region.

Meet the producer

Founded by Merry Edwards, a pioneering Californian winemaker, the estate has been producing world-class Pinot Noir since 1977 in the Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast. Renowned for her expertise in clonal research, Merry Edwards Selection (UCD37) has become a benchmark for quality in California. Certified Sustainable since 2017, all wines are vegan-friendly.

Production

The wine is made from 100% destemmed grapes, including a blend of UCD37, 667, 777, 115, Swan, and Martini Pommard clones. Fermentation takes place in French oak barrels, 44% new, sourced from Doreau, D&J, and F. Freres coopers. The wine is carefully blended to express balance, finesse, and the diverse characteristics of the Sonoma Coast vineyards.

Tasting notes

A complex and exotic nose reveals spicy aromas of cardamom, tamarind, allspice, and cinnamon, layered with candied red cherries, raspberries, wild strawberries, boysenberries, and blackberries. Additional notes of cocoa nibs, cola, white chocolate, candied violets, crème brûlée, caramel, and a hint of blood orange enhance its aromatic depth. On the palate, the wine is lush and succulent, with round tannins, bright acidity, finely integrated oak, and a long, spicy black pepper finish.
