Description
Professor Cornelius Ableforth's Bathtub Gin used to be made in small batches of just 60 bottles until its popularity forced production to take place on much larger scale. The six botanicals used are juniper, orange peel, cinnamon, cloves, corriander and cardamon and these are infused with the raw spirit via the cold compression method. This means that the botanicals are never distilled but the flavours they yield are present despte this. The maceration process isn't run for a fixed time with the spirit being tasted periodocally and the macetaion only being stopped once the Master Distiller is happy.
That orange zest is prominent on the nose as is the juniper. The palate has a substantial mouthfeel with pine notes along with orange and cardamon. All in all this feels like quite a masculine gin but its popularity attests to the fact that it is enjoyed by a great many gin drinkers!
