Campbeltown single malt whisky is a distinctive style of Scotch whisky produced in the town of Campbeltown, located on the Kintyre peninsula in western Scotland. Once hailed as the “Whisky Capital of the World,” Campbeltown was home to over 30 distilleries during its 19th-century peak. Today, only a handful remain—most notably Springbank, Glen Scotia, and Glengyle—yet the region retains its status as one of Scotland’s officially recognised whisky-producing localities.

Campbeltown malts are celebrated for their bold, complex character. They often feature maritime influences due to the coastal climate, with flavour notes ranging from brine and sea spray to dried fruit, vanilla, and a distinctive oiliness. Some expressions are lightly peated, while others lean heavily into smoky, earthy profiles. Springbank, for example, produces three styles: the lightly peated Springbank, the heavily peated Longrow, and the unpeated Hazelburn. Kilkerran, made at Glengyle distillery, is known for its balance of sweetness and salty, industrial funk—a hallmark of Campbeltown’s unique terroir.
