Bonny proved herself an equal among her male counterparts, battling the Royal Navy and dancing with danger at every turn. Clever and charming, she often escaped capture — until 1720, when she was finally seized during a night-time raid. Though her lover Calico Jack was hanged, Bonny escaped the gallows by claiming to be pregnant. She went on to live a long life, dying at the age of 82, a feat nearly unheard of among pirates.
