Don't Let The Duppy Steal Your Rum

When whisky evaporates from its cask during maturation, we call it the Angel’s Share. But in the Caribbean, that missing spirit is blamed on something far more ominous — the Duppy. According to folklore, Duppies are ghostly, malevolent entities that dwell in the roots of cotton trees and possess a deep craving for rum. These shadowy spirits are said to soar between islands under cover of night, stealing only the finest portions of rum. Thus, the Caribbean calls it the Duppy Share.

This dark legend inspired The Westbourne Drinks Company, led by George Frost and Jess Swinfen, to craft a premium blended Caribbean rum fittingly named The Duppy Share. This exceptional spirit is a blend of a three-year-old Jamaican rum from the historic Worthy Park Estate and a five-year-old Barbadian rum from the award-winning Foursquare Distillery.

The Worthy Park Estate, founded in 1721, has been distilling rum since 1740 and remains one of the oldest producers in Jamaica. They grow their own sugar cane, produce their own molasses, and distil everything on-site using a traditional copper pot still, delivering that signature Jamaican intensity. Aged in American white oak bourbon barrels in the cool Jamaican hills, the rum develops incredible depth. Meanwhile, the Foursquare Distillery in Barbados, helmed by fourth-generation master distiller Richard Seale, contributes a silky, rounded element. Aged in ex-bourbon barrels using a mix of pot and column distillation, this rum imparts smooth notes of caramel, vanilla, and oak.

The Duppy Share – Rum with Spirit

In the glass, The Duppy Share glows a golden amber. On the nose, expect bright, fruity aromas — banana, pineapple, and soft sugarcane sweetness layered with vanilla and hints of oak. The initial impression is vibrant and tropical, but on the palate, the body surprises with richness and weight. Sweet, ripe fruit (banana, peach, pineapple) flows into smooth, buttery notes and soft vanilla, likely from the Barbadian rum. A warm, lingering finish brings gentle spice and dry oak to close out the experience.

This is a rum crafted for mixing — try it with cola for a Caribbean classic — but its complexity also makes it enjoyable sipped neat or over ice. A rum with flavour, finesse, and folklore, The Duppy Share is your chance to steal back what the spirits took.
