Dead Man's Finger Rum

Our good friends at the popular Rum And Crab Shack in St. Ives have, after much deliberation and the arduous task of sampling plenty of rum, released Cornwall's first-ever spiced rum: Dead Man's Fingers.

The Rum And Crab Shack sits on the harbour front of the picturesque town, serving fresh seafood alongside an impressive selection of quality rums (which they get from us, of course!). Bar owner Neythan Hayes and rum co-founder Chris McGuire are true rum enthusiasts—so much so that they decided to open a rum bar after a night spent enjoying the excellent Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva. Clearly, they know their spirits!

Dead Man's Fingers has become the Rum And Crab Shack’s house rum. Neythan partnered with Soul Spirits, a small spirits producer based on the remote Lizard Peninsula, to bring his dream of creating his own rum to life. Having successfully opened Cornwall's first Rum Shack a few years ago and watching it thrive, Neythan saw the next logical step: crafting a rum influenced by Cornish culture.

The end result debuted at the Port Eliot Festival in August 2015, alongside a new cocktail called Dead Man's Grip—a mix of lemon and lime juice, passion fruit syrup, Benedictine, peach bitters, and egg whites.

Few things are more Cornish than saffron cake, so Dead Man's Fingers incorporates saffron and nutmeg alongside classic spiced rum notes of vanilla and raisins—the latter paying homage to the Diplomatico rum that sparked their journey. The Rum And Crab Shack is also known for its Pedro Ximenez ice cream, a local favourite, so this influence is woven into the blend as well.

The final result is a beautifully smooth spiced rum that works brilliantly as a mixer or sipped over ice. It’s an easy-drinking rum, and it’s not hard to imagine a bottle disappearing quickly!

This spirit was created by Cornishmen, blending the county's rich culture with Caribbean rum, spiced in the UK—making it a unique standout in the saturated spiced rum market.

If you’d like to try this rum (and you definitely should!), you can buy it online here. We are the exclusive online stockists of Dead Man's Fingers, and you won’t find it anywhere else. Happy drinking, pirates!
