Description
Pol Roger Brut Réserve NV is the definitive expression of the house style, crafted from a blend of 30 still base wines spanning at least three vintages. The cuvée is composed of equal proportions of the three classic Champagne varieties: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Meunier. Pinot Noir, sourced from the Montagne de Reims villages of Verzy, Verzenay, Mailly, Ambonnay, Mardeuil, and Louvois, lends body, depth, and structure with age-worthy tannins. Chardonnay brings elegance, finesse, and lightness from Épernay and the Côte des Blancs villages including Cuis, Oiry, Oger, Vertus, Moussy, and Chouilly, while Pinot Meunier from the Vallée d’Épernay adds youthful vibrancy, freshness, and fruitiness.
Meet the producer
Founded in 1849, Pol Roger remains a family-owned house renowned for producing finely balanced, elegant Champagne with a focus on classic style and consistent quality. The house blends precision, patience, and meticulous vineyard sourcing to achieve a versatile and expressive product.
Production
Following harvest, grapes are gently pressed and the must undergoes a first settling at the press house and a second at the winery at 6°C over 24 hours. Alcoholic fermentation occurs at a controlled 18°C in stainless steel vats, with each variety and village vinified separately. All wines undergo malolactic fermentation. The final blend is assembled and bottled for secondary fermentation in cellars 33 metres below street level, where the Champagne matures on its lees for a minimum of four years. Bottles are hand-riddled, disgorged, dosed at 8g/L, and rested for at least nine months before release, with UK stock benefiting from an additional six months post-disgorgement ageing.
Tasting notes
Pol Roger Brut Réserve NV is pale golden with fine, persistent bubbles. The nose is expressive, revealing green apple, pear, honeysuckle, and brioche, with subtle mineral undertones. On the palate, the Champagne is fresh and vibrant, structured yet delicate, with flavours of quince jelly, apricot jam, acacia honey, candied orange peel, and a hint of sweet cardamom spice. The finish is long, precise, and elegant.
Food match
An ideal apéritif, Pol Roger Brut Réserve is also excellent with fish, shellfish, and subtly spiced dishes.
Grape
Chardonnay 33%, Pinot Noir 34%, Pinot Meunier 33%
On the nose, the champagne is dominated by white flowers, green apple, brioche and a trace of minerality. On the palate there are notes of stone fruits, a certain nuttiness and a hint of honey supporting the freshness of the acidity. UK stock receives an additional 6 months post-disgorgement ageing so it is ready to drink upon release but cellaring for a few years will reveal greater depths. The peritif champagne par excellence but one which has sufficient backbone to be drunk with fish and even spicy dishes.
Brut Rserve is available in half bottles, bottles, magnums, Jeroboams, Methuselahs, Salmanezahs, Balthazars and Nebuchadnezzars.
