Foral de Évora Branco is a distinguished white wine from the Alentejo sub-region of Évora, produced on the historic Quinta de Valbom estate where vineyards have been cultivated since 1517. Its creation honours centuries of winemaking tradition in the region, evoking the wines historically enjoyed under the royal decree (Fora) granted to Évora by King Manuel I in 1501. The wine is made from Assario grapes grown in the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation vineyards, combining ancient practices with modern techniques.
Meet the Producer
Cartuxa, managed by the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation, has long been celebrated for producing wines that reflect the heritage of Évora while embracing precise, contemporary winemaking practices. The estate balances respect for tradition with careful innovation to craft wines of character and finesse.
Production
Grapes are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness and gently brought to the winery for fermentation in stainless steel vats under controlled temperatures. The wine then matures on its lees for eight months, with regular bâtonnage to enhance texture and complexity before bottling.
