Meet the Producer

Alpha Box & Dice (AB&D) is a modern and experimental South Australian winery, known for its striking labels and bold, creative approach. Founded by a passionate trio, AB&D crafts wines that respect Old World traditions while embracing New World expression and flair.

Production

The fruit is sourced from the Protero Vineyard in Kenton Valley, Gumeracha (Adelaide Hills), planted on sandy loam with pockets of clay over bedrock. Grapes are hand-harvested in two passes, mostly destemmed with 10% whole bunch. Fermentation occurs naturally with wild yeasts before being sealed to macerate on skins for a total of six weeks. The wine is then matured for 12 months in French barriques (5% new), followed by 18 months in cask and puncheon, and finally six months in old puncheon before blending. Bottled after three months’ rest for balance and harmony.

Tasting Notes

In the glass, this Nebbiolo shows a brick-red hue. Aromas of cherry cola, rose petals, sandalwood and allspice rise from the nose, while the palate delivers ripe red fruits, cherry pie and savoury spice. Structured tannins lead into a lingering, slightly stemmy finish, making this a fine and complex wine with ageing potential.
