The Bruichladdich Distillery Story

Bruichladdich Distillery was established in 1881 on the Scottish island of Islay by the Harvey brothers, but eventually closed in 1994. In 2001, Mark Reynier, Simon Coughlin and then Head Distiller Jim McEwan reopened it, with a vision to produce the world’s most thought-provoking spirits. Reconnecting land and dram, Bruichladdich single malts are distilled, matured, and bottled solely on the island.

In 2012, the distillery was purchased by luxury, family-owned spirits company Remy Cointreau. In 2020, Bruichladdich became one of the world’s only distilleries, and the first Scotch whisky and gin distillery in Europe, to be B-Corp certified, and was re-certified in 2023.

Everything Bruichladdich does is in pursuit to reconnect land, community, and dram: the distillery support their island community, invest in sustainable agriculture, and protect local biodiversity – all while in pursuit of exceptional flavour.

The Unpeated Single Malt Range

Bruichladdich - The Unpeated Single Malt Range

In a mission to uncover flavour at every opportunity, the bottlings have become a liquid embodiment of the distilleries unrelenting curiosity. The depth of the range is complex yet rewarding, as Bruichladdich celebrate the variety and nuance of every fruitful drop.

The Classic Laddie

Made from 100% Scottish barley, trickle distilled, then matured for its entire life by the shores of Lochindaal in premium American and French oak, it is a testament to the quality of their ingredients.

In an effort to reduce their environmental impact, the Classic Laddie now comes in a lighter bottle, with no tin, which results in 65% reduction in CO2 emissions.

The Peated Single Malt Range

Port Charlotte - The Heavily Peated Single Malt Range

Peated to a heavyweight of 40PPM, trickle distilled through tall, narrow necked stills, Port Charlotte single malts result in rich and aromatic spirits, with the power of peat, elegance and finesse. Port Charlotte single malt explores the complexities of natural whisky through barley provenance, cask influence and the passing of time.

Octomore - The Super Heavily Peated Single Malt Range

Octomore single malt has defied received whisky wisdom since its launch in 2008. Matured for five years, always super-heavily peated and bottled close to cask strength, Octomore’s surprising elegance has led the distillery to define it as “The Impossible Equation”.
