The Wine: Through the silver sea of olive trees, the white stones of noon, the bright secrets of lace, the enticing invitations of Baroque palaces, here comes EDDA, a feminine grape of mineral and eternal flair, unseizable fruit in a land of charms.A refreshing blend with delicate aromas and notes of peach, floral aromatics with slight vanilla notes towards the end. On the palate this comes to an end with a mineral taste.
San Marzano: Named European Producer of the Year 2015 by Imbibe Magazine's Sommelier Wine Awards - no mean feat given the nature of the competition. This Puglian cooperative is one of the most professional, forward thinking companies in Southern Italy, with a reputation for producing great wines.
San Marzano was established in 1962 when 19 vine growers from San Marzano decided to pool their resources and combine their efforts and skills in the pursuit of making wines that truly reflected the region and its native grapes.
They have never looked back, and now the co-op boasts more than 1,200 vine growers. The philosophy remains, however, which is why wines made from the local Negroamaro and Primitivo varieties are central to what they and their efforts go towards.
The Mediterranean terroir plays a key role in the production of these high quality wines, and the region's climate is extreme with droughts, wind and frost all playing a part. It's testament to the skill of the winemakers that even the fruits of the oldest bush vine can be made into full-bodied and elegant wines, capable of considerable ageing.
Food Pairing: Serve with a light summer salad or fresh fish.
