    Amrut Single Malt Whisky is made from select Indian malted barley grown in Punjab and Rajasthan, the north-west frontier states of India.
    In Punjab, the waters from the great Himalayas flow through the river Sutlej and irrigate the land under the Bhakra Nangal dam scheme. The cold winters and fiery summers create a unique quality of barley, rich in flavour.
    Malting takes place at maltsters in Jaipur and Delhi to the exacting standards laid down by Amrut Distilleries Ltd. The malted barley is then transported south to Bangalore where it is carefully mashed and distilled in small batches to preserve the natural aromas.

    The whisky then undergoes maturation in imported oak barrels for over three years in a unique tropical condition at a warehouse on the distillery premises in Bangalore, the Garden City of India, which is at an altitude of 3,000 ft above sea level and enjoying a salubrious climate all year round.
    This unique natural geographical location allows an intense maturation process, by losing con
  • Amrut Fusion Indian 50% 70cl
    Voted 3rd best whisky in the World by Jim Murray whisky Bible 2010. A strongly flavoured whisky which has gained many new advocates for the quality produced at Amrut distillery.

    Nose : Heavy, thicky oaked and complex: some curious barley sugar notes here shrouded in soft smoke. Big, but seductively gentle, too..

    Taste : The delivery through controlled at first, is massive! Then more like confusion as that smoke on the nose turns into warming, full brown peat, but it far from gets its own way as a vague sherry trifle note(curious, seeing how there are no sherry butts involved) - the custard presumably is okay vanilla hammers home that barley - fruitness to make for a bit of a free for all; but for extra food measure the flavours develop into a really intense chocolate fudge middle which absolutely resonates through the palate;

    Finish : A slight struggle here as the mouthfeel gets a bit puffy here with the dry peat and oak; enough molassed sweetness to see the malt through to a satisfying end, though. Above all the spices, rather than lying down and accepting their fae, rise up and usher this extraordinary whisky to its exit;
  • Amrut Peated single malt 62.8% vol 70cl
    A very good peated whisky, highly rated by our customers, possibly the pick of the range.
    Bottled February 2009

    Tasting Note
    Nose : Gristy smoked barley, kippers with a salted butter, peppered bite;

    Taste : The delivery is youthful and barely reaching puberty then suddenly an intensely malty ascendancy followed by a healthy close of drier oaks;

    Finish : A sublime finale for its sheer delicacy and elegance; the peat no more than oozes, there are cups galaore of sugarless medium roast Mysore and finally, as a bourbony trail is discovered, soft liquorice and molassed sugar - easily the highlight of the experience; one of the best finishes of the year...

    The Bakers commenced distilling whiskies and marketed blends including Wilsons and 45 South.
    The large Canadian multi-national Seagrams improved the still and processes after purchasing the distillery in the 1980s, marketing the Single Malts as Lammerlaw, named after a nearby mountain range, the source of the pure water from which the whisky was created.
