  • Verdicchio Vecchie Vigne 2001 Umani Ronchi 14% 75cl
Vecchie Vigne Casal di Serra was created to preserve and glorify the great historical and qualitative heritage of the old vineyards on the Montecarotto farm.
The old vines were planted in the early 70s, and their particular position and fine balance between fruit and leaf growth means that the grapes can be harvested when they have reached a slight degree of over-ripeness. The wine is aged over a long period, first in concrete tanks in contact with the native yeasts and subsequently in bottle, and that gives this cru its particular fullness and brings out the typical Verdicchio character.

    Winemakers notes
The magnificent colour, brilliant golden yellow with lively greenish tints, and sumptuous oiliness anticipate an amble bouquet of broom, camomile, ripe apricot, pineapple and peach, with pleasant overtones of wild mint, sage and hazelnut.
In the mouth, it is striking for its elegance: dry and fresh with an acidity which is balanced perfectly by the softness of the alcohol.
    Long, pungent finish.

The wine shows pure Sauvignon style - fragrant aromas of grapefruit and citrus with a waft of mineral pungency, full and round in the mouth with further fruity grapefruit and orange flavours but also almond nuttiness, supported by elegant zingy lees and acidity.

    Producer Details
Terroir plays an important role at this estate. Michel, Philippe and Benot Girard own 19 hectares of vines planted in the three different soil structures of Sancerre: Terres Blanches (clay and limestone), Caillottes (chalky limestone) and Silex (flint). Rather than produce a range, they favour judicious blending of the separately-vinified cuves to create a delicious Sancerre they are proud to call 'Domaine Girard'.

    In the Vineyard
The estate of Domaine Michel Girard comprises of 12 hectares which is made up of 30 parcels of vineyards where the average age of vines is 15 years. Terroir plays an important role in this estate where three different soil structures of Sancerre exist: Terres Blanches (limestone), Caillottes (chalky limestone), Silex (flint). The result is several cuves vinified separately each reflecting the different styles.

    In the Winery
The grapes are hand-picked and gently pressed, fermented at 18C by indigenous yeasts in stainless steel vats - all to preserve natural aromas, elegance and complexity. The final blend brings together these different elements and flavours to create a balanced whole wine.

Chardonnay and Parellada are harmoniously blended after careful fermentation of a percentage in Limousin oak barrels, thus retaining the character of each variety. The result is a magnificent, intense wine.

    Wine and Food
A wonderful accompaniment to fromage frais, salt and freshwater fish, seafood (particularly good with seafood paella), even chicken and turkey.

    Tasting Notes
Thanks to the presence of the Chardonnay, the wine is intensely aromatic and full-bodied, with a profusion of flowery notes over a fruity background (very ripe peaches) and a hint of fennel. On the palate the wine has a long aftertaste and is silky with an elegant fullness. A touch of vanilla in the finish is indicative of the wines short ageing in French oak.

This 20 hectare estate in the commune of Monteforte D'Alpone in the very heart of the Soave Classico district is run by brothers Sergio and Graziano Pra. Winemaker Graziano does a fantastic job of producing authentic, top class Soave.

The most celebrated is the opulent Monte Grande, awarded 'Tre Bicchieri' 5 years in a row. "Les Beaux Cailloux" represents the ultimate expression of our winemaking art.

  • Tabali Viognier Reserve 2015 13.5% 75cl
Situated in one of the northernmost vineyard regions in Chile, approaching the edge of the Atacama Desert, Tabal commands a unique location in the heart of the Limar Valley. The local Camanchaca fog blankets the Limar area each morning, and afternoon coastal breezes bring cool air which moderates the ripening of the grapes. The result is a range of truly distinctive wines with elegance, restraint and minerality.

This Viognier presents rich aromas of citrus and dried apricot, with hints of candied fruit. On the palate floral, honeyed and citrus flavours combine with a soft rounded texture and great purity.

This beautifully aromatic and delicate wine is a good match to delicate and rich seafood such as langoustine but will equally stand up to aromatic Thai and Pan Asian cuisine. Try seabass in ginger.

    Producer Details
The Gard region lies at the southern end of the Rhne valley, a river valley which stretches from Lyon in the north to the Mediterranean delta in the south. The red wines here bear the supple textures and peppery influences of the Rhne in their Grenache and Shiraz, but also in their style of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Whites too extend the Rhne thread into the Gard - with Viognier infiltrating from the north (from its rarefied hideouts in Condrieu and Cte Rtie) and Clairette spreading its reach from the top southern Rhne enclave of white Chteauneuf-du-Pape. These grape varieties and the domaines we work with (Bahourat, Mas Barrau, Sources de la Marine and Montval) are all situated on the high plateau of the Costires de Nmes - old river beds of stony, free-draining soil of immaculately tended rows of vines on flat land in large blocks of vineyards, which facilitate very efficient farming and value-for-money pricing.

    In the Vineyard
Viognier grapes are picked at optimum ripeness - a decision made by Eric Monnin in consultation with the grower, to deliver rich, concentrated flavours. Situated in the Vins du Pays du Gard in the Languedoc, the vineyard is abundant with apricot trees that surround the vineyards, and which, like the vines benefit from the terroir and climatic conditions of the region.

  • Lands End Sauvignon Blanc 2010 14% 75cl
This classic Sauvignon Blanc shows wild tropical fruit flavours that intermingle with flinty and herbaceous notes, creating a rounder, fuller mouthfeel. A profile of succulent fruit and freshly picked herbs was unmistakably tempered by the cool sea breezes to form a unique combination of luscious flavours with mineral undertones.
This wine shows incredible weight and length on the palate and has the potential to age well.

One of the most exciting aspects of the South Africa scene at the moment is a new found confidence in associating particular grapes with certain regions. In particular, developments in Sauvignon Blanc viticulture have led producers to seek out the cooler regions of the southern areas of the Cape. Pioneers such as Neil Ellis began the march south but theres only so far you can go and those people producing from the new Cape Agulhas region are literally living on the edge.

At the southern tip of Africa, Cape Agulhas is an exposed martime influenced region with strong winds and temperatures cooled by the proximity to the sea. The iconic Lands End lighthouse marks the southernmost point and provides the focus for the eponymous estate. Lands End Estate has recently been bought by Dave Hidden of Hidden Valley with the aim of producing world class, distinctive Sauvignon Blanc and Syrah and early indications are more than promising.

Land's End Estate produces iconic Sauvignon Blanc and Syrah from an extreme microclimate. The strong maritime influence has ensured that the Sauignon Blanc wine has a tight, intense mineral style coupled with great palate weight and texture. This is a wine that will open up over time and reward a year in bottle before drinking in order for it to show its full potential. In vineyards where the pruners sometimes have trouble standing up because of the wind, the grapes ripen slowly giving great intensity of flavour and texture. Low yields and careful winemaking further add complexity to make what will become one of the textbook Sauvignons from the Cape.

It was first introduced by the Anglo-Saxons, and then gradually discovered by the French who appreciated its freshness, suppleness and ability to go with food.

Our Pinot Blanc mainly comes from our Saering and Spiegel Grand Cru plots and Bux and Bollenberg plots.
