  • Verdicchio Vecchie Vigne 2001 Umani Ronchi 14% 75cl
Vecchie Vigne Casal di Serra was created to preserve and glorify the great historical and qualitative heritage of the old vineyards on the Montecarotto farm.
The old vines were planted in the early 70s, and their particular position and fine balance between fruit and leaf growth means that the grapes can be harvested when they have reached a slight degree of over-ripeness. The wine is aged over a long period, first in concrete tanks in contact with the native yeasts and subsequently in bottle, and that gives this cru its particular fullness and brings out the typical Verdicchio character.

    Winemakers notes
The magnificent colour, brilliant golden yellow with lively greenish tints, and sumptuous oiliness anticipate an amble bouquet of broom, camomile, ripe apricot, pineapple and peach, with pleasant overtones of wild mint, sage and hazelnut.

Producer Details Araldica is Piemonte's largest and most progressive co-operative yet retains a small, family run company feel, thanks to the inspired guidance of winemaker/manager Claudio Manera (whose father Livio was the co-op's first winemaker in the fifties) and his wife Lella, also a winemaker and in charge of Quality Control. 80% of production is bottled (an extraordinarily high percentage for a large co-operative) at the company's headquarters in the Monferrato hills, home of the old cellars and a new winery, operating since September 2000. This is complimented by two estates, each with it's own vinification cellars, La Battistina in Gavi (where Araldica is the region's largest vineyard owner) and Il Cascinone. Claudio believes that effective management can preserve that most important concern for the customer - value for money: "Our intention has never been to follow an idle dream of making a great wine that is then impossible to find or difficult to afford. Our broader ambition has been to provide a range that is both understandable and accessible. Quite simply, wine for drinking and enjoying."

A long-standing, working tradition of the vineyards, handed down through the generations has made Sergio an expert in vine growing systems. Winemaker Graziano does a fantastic job of producing authentic, top class Soave.

Universally regarded as one of a handful of world-class producers in Soave who have revitalised the region, Pra's 5 wines, all based on Garganega, cover a wide spectrum of styles and flavours. The most celebrated is the opulent Monte Grande, awarded 'Tre Bicchieri' 5 years in a row. Arguably the latest release, the intense, incisive, unoaked 'Staforte' takes the range to new heights but for us the most impressive achievement is the delicious 'basic' Soave.
