Description
This Rioja is made from Tempranillo grapes sourced from the three sub-regions of Rioja; Rioja Alta, Alavesa and Oriental. The wine is matured in new and second-year American and French oak barrels of medium-toast for a minimum of 30 months, followed by 36 months in bottle. Ruby red in colour with russet hues. Complex on the nose with pronounced intensity. Notes of red fruit and spice are complimented by aromas of balsamic, leather and dried fruit. Elegant on the palate with robust, ripe tannins and a very long finish.
Bodegas Franco-Españolas was founded by Frederick Anglade Saurat, a native of Bordeaux, in 1890, at a time when the French came to the region to replace their vineyards devastated by phylloxera. In 1920, fifteen years after Anglade’s death, the French sold their shares and the winery became wholly Spanish. Borja Eguizábal assumed management in 2016, giving way to the third generation of the Eguizábal family as owners of the winery. Its privileged location, on the banks of the Ebro River, has made Bodegas Franco-Españolas a witness to the history of Logroño. In the hands of the Eguizábal Family since 1984, it is currently immersed in new projects and is a benchmark among the leisure and cultural offer of La Rioja.
