Description
A remarkable wine. Exhibiting a stunning deep-red ruby hue, reminiscent of the luminous brilliance found in top-tier Burgundies. The forefront boasts primary notes of red fruit, including Morello cherry, raspberry, and blackberry. Complexity emerges with subtle smoky undertones evolving towards licorice. The body is sturdy yet smooth, impeccably balanced without being weighty. It exudes liveliness and refinement simultaneously. A lingering and delightful sensation of harmony, richness, and delicate tannins envelops the palate, leaving a lasting impression.
The Drouhin vineyard is at mid-slope, on a mild incline with an east/south-east exposure. It is the largest parcel of the Clos des Mouches (14 hectares - 35 acres), one half planted with chardonnay, the other half with pinot noir. The name "mouches" means flies. There were once bee-hives in this sun-drenched "clos" (vineyard enclosure); the bees in the local dialect were called "mouches à miel" (honey flies), hence the name Clos des Mouches.
