Description
Andean Oak, or Quercus Humboldtii, is an evergreen tree that grows across the mountains of Colombia's Andean range at medium to high altitudes. This non-traditional wood imparts unusual spicy notes, markedly different from the aromas of Mount Gay's traditional barrels used. Their Master Blender Trudiann Branker used virgin casks, which gave the wood the opportunity to accentuate its distinguishing notes to their full potential once in contact with a 14 year old pot still rum. The result of this true artisan craft is a delicate, yet opulent blend with layers of spice, nutmeg, vanilla, ripe pear and toasted coconut on the palate.
Mount Gay has been crafting rich and flavourful rums on the Norther tip of Barbados for over 300 years. The Andean Oak Cask is the fourth release in the Master Blender Collection, where their Master Blender Trudiann Branker worked on a very exclusive and innovative blend that showcases the influence of non-traditional woods in marriage with the Mount Gay profile.
