This is one of South Africa's oldest vineyards that lies in the deep alluvial soils of the sunny Breedekloof region that is situated in the Western Cape. Planted in 1900, the timeworn, gnarled vines each year bear a meagre yield of the precious Muscat d'Alexandrie grape, here better known by its local name Hanepoot.
This magical vineyard's grapes might be few, but each berry is dense with extraordinary fruit concentration, bearing an enticing perfume for which this Muscat variety is well-known and sought after the world over. From this rare gift of nature the winemaker coaxes a truly special wine using old wood maturation and gentle fortification to ensure a golden elixir of wondrous complexity and deep, refined sweetness. Aromas of honey, orange blossom and fruitcake. The palate has intense flavours of sultanas, ripe candied citrus peel and sweet mandarins.
