Octomore 10.1 from Bruichladdich has been described as the benchmark dram for the 10.X series. Distilled in 2013 using barley from the 2012 harvest, this is a stripped back dram matured in ex-American oak casks and aged for only 5 years. With the combination of smoke with a short maturation this demonstrates the true potential of a considered and patient distillation.
Aromas of caramel come in after the initial vanilla notes but quickly leads to candied apple and marzipan notes. On the palate Octomore 10.1 delivers a soft but powerful body with pepper, barley, sugar and smoke that lead to a sweet fudge like finish with overlaying strong peat.
