From the multi award winning Cornish Distiller, Wrecking Coast comes this fantastic new product. A rum based spirit liqueur made with Kea Plums that have been hand picked in the Parishes of Kean and Coombe near Falmouth, Cornwall - Ansom that is!
The hand picked fruit is first picked and then rested for two months minimum while adding some orange, ginger, spice and a touch of sugar to get the right sugar levels before bottling. The natural sharpness of the Kea plums that is finely balanced with the citrus and warmth of ginger delivering deep, jammy flavours with a slight tart finish.
This new product from The Wrecking Coast is a modern take on the traditional Rum Shrub, which is an old Cornish Tradition that dates back to the 17th Century. This was when fruits were mixed with rum to produce this sweet, fruity delicious rum based liqueur called shrub. It was a great way of preserving the fruit on long journeys out at sea. There are other storys out there that have been handed down by generation to generation that say that it was used to smuggle rum and evade the Customs men! Many of our customers, especially the locals love a good Rum and Shrub!
