Port Charlotte MRC: 01 is limited in numbers. They have over 200 different cask types maturing in their warehouses, their cask exploration series showcases the influence of wood on their heavily peated spirit. Distilled in 2010 from 100% Scottish barley, from the Invernesshire region this is sweet and fruity and has spent time in first fill American Whiskey casks and second fill French wines casks and the finally an extra year in the finest French oak from Bordeaux.
On the nose it is raspberry and cherries with Turkish delight and smoky driftwood embers. On the palate it is lively and sweet icing sugar and marshmallows roasted of the fire. Sweet red fruit and peat smoke melt away slightly as the power of the oak comes through bringing tobacco leaf and toasted oak. The finish is smoky and a little more medicinal than normal with a dryness from the oak telling the story of the French oak being toasted.
