Barra Gin showcases a perfect balance of floral and herbal on the nose, leading to juniper, citrus and dulcet carrageen rolling across the tongue like mighty Atlantic surf breaking on Barra shores. Refreshing and clean, with a long, gratifyingly warm spice finish that opens out like the vast vista surrounding our beautifully remote home.
The key botanical in Bara Gin is sourced naturally from the crystal clear, pure shallows surrounding their island. Every piece of edible carrageen seaweed is meticulously selected and handpicked by the distillers on Barra's beautiful coastline to provide the distinctive flavour of their unique gin. The carrageen, also known by its scientific name Chondrus Crispus, is a species of red algae native to the cool Atlantic waters skirting Europe's rocky coastlines, including the beautiful island of Barra. Like many of the other seaweed varieties found on the Scottish coast, carrageen is harvested after the spring tides, when the water is furthest from the shore.
