Description
Old Ballantruan owes its name to an exceptional source of the purest of waters, the Ballantruan spring, nestling in the Cromdale Hills in the Speyside Glenlivet region close to Tomintoul, the highest village in the Scottish Highlands. The water from the Ballantruan spring significantly contributes to this remarkable Single Malt.
Old Ballantruan is distilled using heavily peated malted barley in the traditional manner. After reseting for 15 years in hand picked oak barrels, this whisky has been bottled without any chill filtration in order to retain its layered and intregated peaty flavours.
On the nose this is oozing with peat with mild gun-flint notes softened by sweet, mature, creamy Speyside malt. Hints of herbal heathery spice. On the palate it is a big impact of peat smoke yet soft and tempered with toffee sweetness and gentle oaky spice.
