The Akashi Single Malt is a Japanese whisky distilled at the White Oak distillery. It's five years old, having spent two years in sherry casks before a final three in oak hogsheads. The nose is sherried but also with delicate chamomile, The palate is smooth and rounded with vanilla and oak.
The White Oak distillery was the first in Japan to be granted an official license to distill whisky in 1919. They import all their barley from Scotland and have become masters of emulating the Scottish style.
