Cline Old Vine Zinfandel is made from grapes sourced from 14 different vineyards within the Lodi valley area of Sonoma, California. The fruit is rigorously selected from vines up to 70 years old to focus on striking the perfect balanced between early drinkability, elegance and structure. The grapes were de-stemmed and lightly crushed to preserve fruit and limit harsh tannin extraction. A moderately warm fermentation in closed stainless steel tanks using specific wine yeast came next. Once desired tannin levels were achieved, the wine was racked two or even three times before aging in wood for eight month. They use 35% new French oak to add toasty vanilla notes without masking the fruit. The wine is supple with dark berry fruits and vanilla on the nose. The palate is generous and smooth with black forest fruits, spice, subtle oak and fine grain tannins on the finish to add complexity and structure. Pairs well with smoked Pork Shoulder of fillet steak.
