Description
Misty Isle Gin is the only gin to be produced on the Isle of Skye and everything about it reflects the rugged Scottish island. It's made by the Wilson brothers who hail from Skye and are passionate about their little corner of the world. The label depicts the Cuillin Mountains found on the island and the highly unusual twisted glass bottle pays homage to the elements that accost Skye almost constantly. It reminds us of a wave breaking against the rocky shoreline. Speaking of the elements, the Wilson brothers forage all the juniper berries by hand from Skye itself. We can only imagine how unpleasant this is in the rain that often batters the island.
The gin is made in a copper pot still and uses fresh water from the Storr Lochs a short distance away from the distillery. The juniper is distilled first with the other botanicals being vapour infused afterward. The exact botanicals used is kept secret and there is one among them that can only be found on Skye. Misty Isle Gin is pretty juniper heavy but doesn't become too flowery with subtle spiciness and earthy qualities. There's some citrus on the finish also. The recommended serve is with Fever Tree Mediterranean and a garnish of orange peel.
