Description
Chateau Fortia is a symbolic estate in Chateauneuf-du-Pape, both for its location and its roots that are closely linked to that of its appellation. In 1929 due to the efforts of Baron Pierre Leroy, Chateauneuf du Pape became the first appellation with a set of winemaking regulations. Today his descendants still continue the proud family tradition. Vineyard Since his arrival on the estate several years ago, Pierre Pastre has strived to make improvements in the vineyards, including the replanting of vines on specific plots of land, to best suit the grape variety. This domain has one of the best terroirs in Châteauneuf-du-Pape with its abundance of rounded quartzite stones from the Villafranchian period. These stones absorb heat during the day then radiate it at night, promoting full grape maturity. Winemaking After rigorous sorting, the grapes were destalked. Fermentation took place in temperature controlled tanks with a long maceration lasting approximately 21 days. Malolactic fermentation took place in large oak barrels. After racking, the wine was aged for 12 months in French oak casks, followed by futher bottle ageing. Tasting Note A very textured and silky wine with lovely concentration and a lightness of touch in the winemaking which belies the power of this superb wine.
