Description
The wine is a dark cherry red with an intense nose of ripe cassis fruit, toasted coffee and liquorice - and all the power and concentration you would expect from this kind of international project. These notes follow through onto the palate with savoury characters, spicy rich fruit flavours, smoky oak and firm tannins - but overall elegance.
Producer Details In 2002, the year he set up Bodegas Juan Gil, Miguel Gil also co-founded one of the most ambitious quality wine projects in southern Spain, El Nido. With Australian winemaker Chris Ringland (ex-Rockford and producer of acclaimed old vine Barossa Shiraz) Miguel established a tiny winery next to Juan Gil to produce just 2,000 cases from the best low yielding plots in the area. Two award-laden and immaculately-crafted wines, Clio and El Nido, are made from 44 hectares of 65 year old Monastrell and 30 year old Cabernet Sauvignon. In the winery This blend of old vine Monastrell and Cabernet Sauvignon was fermented and aged for around 24 months in French oak.
