The colour, nose and flavours are reminiscent of an aged tawny port; dark red fruits scented with roasted walnuts, raisins, dark chocolate and a lick of caramel. Luscious and sweet with a dry edge and long, very long, complex finish.
Producer Details Perhaps Pierre Gaillard was always destined to be a vigneron - he was caught at the age of 12 plouging a local vineyard parcel with his horse, and continued his love affair with vineyards from there. In 1981 he purchased his first parcel of land in the medieval town of Malleval, and set up his first Domaine there 6 years later. In 2002, he created the charming Domaine Madeloc in Banyuls-sur-Mer. Close to the Spanish border, with steep, rocky Pyreneean vineyards looking out to the sea, this offered exhilarating terroir he sought. Nowadays he manages a total of 77 hectares around France, and Domaine Madeloc is run by his daughter lise.
