Description
This wine is inspired by the great wines of Germany, particularly the Mosel’s Kabinett and Spätlese styles. Because of the wines low alcohol and due to the sometimes peculiar PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) rules of the UK/EU, we are unable to refer to the grape type on the label. Therefore, we derived our name from the Cornish translation for the grape Schönburger, which means ‘pretty/sweet hill’. Mena = hill, Hweg = nice/sweet. The wine is light green in the glass with delicate floral, citrus and peach like aromas. Although the wine carries a residual sugar of 38g/l, it is well balanced by the grapes natural acidity, giving a tension and vibrancy to the palate. The finish clean and crisp, rather than cloying. These styles are wonderfully versatile; though not sweet enough for a dessert wine, it can be enjoyed as an aperitif, a mid meal palate cleanser or with a range of foods, including Asian, salad dishes and especially savoury dishes that carry fruity or sweet elements.
