Description
Hearty and rustic red from the Bairrada region of Portugal showing aromas of ripe berry and plum fruits. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, dark fruit and warming spicy characters. Just Picked up the Trophy for " Great Value Red Wine Under 7" at the International Wine Challenge 2013
Producer Details One of Portugal's largest and most progressive producers with 600 hectares spread across estates in five regions from Douro in the north to Alentejo in the south. Winemaker Francisco Antunes oversees what must be one of the most diverse ranges in Europe, from the 3rd largest Portuguese rose brand (Casal Mendes) to some of the country's most impressive premium reds from estates in Douro, Dao, Bairrada and Alentejo. Arguably, Francisco's greatest achievements lie between these extremes, a range of mid-priced wines from native varieties, full of character, quite distinctly Portuguese, but at the same time approachable and with fresh, modern fruit.
Press Quotes 2011 Vintage: "Crikey! Another great value red with a real backbone of firm structure that would be delicious paired with a hearty meaty feast. It feels tight and will open with age but would also benefit from decanting after opening to round it out a bit and unfurl its full complement of fragrance and wild berry tang. Stick it in a jug and get involved." Olly Smith, 50 Great Portuguese Wines of 2013
