Krohn are a small family-owned Port house run by brother and sister Jose and Iolanda Carneiro. Long renowned for the quality of their sublime Colheitas (single vintage tawnies), they produce a remarkably complete range for a small house and each wine excels in its category. The Quinta do Retiro Novo estate in Sarzedinho, in the Rio Torto valley, is all A grade vineyard. Vinification takes place here, with some of the top wines still being trodden by foot. All the wines are matured in cellars at Villa Nova de Gaia.
In the Vineyard
The traditional white grape varieties are sourced from the Upper Corgo area of the Douro demarcated region, which is situated in northern Portugal comprising the Douro Valley and its tributaries.Here old vines are planted in schistous soils.
