Description
The 2023 vintage is a beautiful pale salmon colour, quite openly fruity at first, then an almost floral nose leads you onto lovely, warm rounded fruit on the palate with good length and utterly satisfying flavours. This is a subtle, beautifully balanced and possibly one of the finest French rose wines.
Producer Details Domaine Lafran Veyrolles is an estate with a superb terroir and is widely recognised as one of the top three producers in the appellation. Jean-Marie Castell runs this small, traditional estate with just 10 ha of vines in the classic clay-limestone Terre rouge of Bandol (one of the most famous cru of Provence). The estate nestles in and is protected by the hills of the Cadire d'Azur, and benefits from a maritime climate. The estate works organically and the yields are kept extremely low. Domaine Lafran Veyrolles red's have made it one of the star performers of the appellation but dont overlook the ros wines as they deserve attention too!
In the Vineyard Domaine Lafran-Veyrolles vineyards and winery is managed by Jean-Marie Castel, whose father also worked for the Ferec family. He studied oenology before joining Domaine Lafran-Veyrolles and has continued the winemaking work in the style of the estate. The rustic facilities have been updated with modern, temperature controlled systems that have made the wine production more efficient. Harvesting for most grape varieties begins in early September however the Mourvdre is harvested towards the end of the month. Traditional manual vineyard work (except ploughing) remains along with organic methods of weed and pest control (although they are not certified Organic).
