Seven generations and nearly two centuries have passed since the founding of Domaines Schlumberger. In 1810, Nicolas Schlumberger established his vineyards on the renowned, sunny slopes above the town of Guebwiller. Through successive generations the holding has grown from the original few small plots to one of Frances largest and finest vineyards. Seventh generation Alain Beydon-Schlumberger runs the domaine.
Originally called Tokay dAlsace, then Tokay Pinot Gris, this grape variety is not related in any way to the Hungarian Tokaji which comes from the Furmint grape variety. It is actually a Burgundian pinot which has been found in Alsace since the 17th century. The name Pinot Gris is generally used from 2007.
