Bernheim Original Straight Wheat Whiskey uses a minimum 51% wheat in its recipe as the primary grain. It is not a "wheated Bourbon" like Heaven Hill's Old Fitzgerald Straight Bourbon, which is a type of Bourbon that substitutes wheat for the rye in the mashbill.
Bernheim Wheat Whiskey was distilled in January of 2000 at the Bernheim Distillery, and has been aging in our open rick warehouses in Nelson County since. Master Distillers Parker and Craig Beam have been anxiously monitoring the whiskey's maturation, and believe that the whiskey has aged beautifully and is ready to be bottled.
Interesting mash bill of 51% soft winter wheat, 39% corn and 10% barley malt, gives a gentle personality with a touch of sweetness and vanilla. The taste picks up with some spice, fruit and oak coming through. It gathers pace with the oak to the fore and then finishes with a touch of honey and cereal sweetness.
