Description
This wine has a perfumed nose with hints of peaches and citrus and a steely backbone that carries through on the palate. Faint spice and crisp finish to balance.
Producer Details Cave de Turckheim is situated in the pretty village of Turckheim, just slightly north west of Colmar. Firmly established as one of the best co-operatives in the world Cave de Turckheim always pays the utmost respect for the wine, combining rigour, know-how and patience with the latest technology and a steady stream of investment. Michel Lihrmann has been their senior winemaker for over 25 years and strongly believes that varietals in Alsace should express their delicate characteristics and favours the dryer style of Alsace wines. Testimony to their quality and attention to detail has been the clutch of medals and awards gained over the past few years, culminating in a clutch of awards, especially for the Grand Cru Brand range, for which they won IWC Trophy for White Wine in 2004 (Gewurztraminer Grand Cru Brand 2000). Cave de Turckheim produce an extensive range of wines, from their value-for-money Cave Tradition varietal range to the wines from 3 different Grand Crus. Central to Cave de Turckheims success is their willingness to innovate; two years ago they launched the Rserve range to great acclaim, and 2006 sees the launch of the Terroir DAlsace range (formerly Lieux-Dit), a label change for their signature Grand Cru range and the launch of the Turckheim Pinot Grigio - a dry style Pinot Gris.
In the Vineyard Grapes are selected from vineyards with diverse soils - limestone, granite, gravel, marl and sandstone - which impart different characters and styles to the overall blend, and harvested by hand and machine, depending on site.
In the Winery Produced 'traditionally' by winemaker Jean Michel Lihrmann - pneumatic pressing, temperature controlled fermentation, no fining and light filtration before bottling - all to preserve fruit and aromatic qualities and elegance. His philosophy is to make wines with good acidity and fruit balance.
